LSX EDI panel reflections
Last week saw Start Codon CEO, Jason Mellad, take part in a panel at LSX2024.
Alongside Rosie Rodriguez PhD, Kristen Albright and João Ribas, Jason contributed to an important conversation on how to build inclusivity at work and why fostering diverse and interdisciplinary teams is important.
Reflecting back on the topics they discussed, Jason’s has compiled his top three takeaways.
- Before building a team, it’s important to take time for self-reflection. Understanding yourself and what you’re bringing to the table, and understanding the gaps that you need others to fill is vital to building a well-rounded and successful team.
- There’s plenty of research that shows more diverse teams make better decisions and perform better. So, think about how to embrace diversity in all its forms – in the language you use, in the ways you share information, in the accessibility of spaces, the places you advertise, and in an actively thinking about how to welcome and engage with people with different experiences and ways of thinking.
- Think back to think ahead. If we want to have great talent in years to come, we need to show all young people that there are opportunities to do amazing things in our industry. So, think about engaging with schools, STEM outreach, internships etc. and show young people that the doors are open to all!
Start Codon's thanks goes to the LSX World Congress team for the opportunity to participate in this big conversation!
